GRIHA award for Exemplary Performance 2022-2023


The School KFI's environmentally sensitive campus in Thazhambur, Chennai has been awarded the Exemplary Performance Award for Existing Day Schools in India by the GRIHA Council for 2022-2023. The School KFI was selected as the winner amongst 35 applicant schools from across India. GRIHA is India's national green building rating system. The prestigious GRIHA award is a recognition of the school's deep commitment to the environment and to incorporate environmental sensitivity in all aspects of education.

The school nominated Anupama Moharam, parent of the school and co-founder of Green Evolution - architect of the new campus, to receive the award at the annual GRIHA Summit in New Delhi in December 2022.


Key environmental benchmarks achieved

  • 70% of energy need met by onsite solar photo-voltaic system.
  • 50% water use reduction from the Indian Green Building Council's baseline.
  • 60% water requirement met through recycled water and harvested rain water.
  • 100% of organic waste processed on site and reused use manure for landscaped areas.

The school was designed to comply with Indian Green Building Council's Green School standard and the school was awarded the IGBC Green School Certification with the highest Platinum rating in 2018.
